He then did another movie called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011, which gave him the best supporting actor award for Filmfare. He also sung a couple of songs in the said movie. As far as his acting career is concerned, he started with Rock On (2008), which again gave him another national award.

He then went ahead to make a commercially successful movie called Don in 2006, which gave him a critical acclaim. This followed another movie called Lakshya in 2004, while the same year it witnessed a Hollywood debut for the movie called Bride and Prejudice for which he wrote lyrics. He later established his own production company called Excel Entertainment and embarked with his directorial debut called Dil Chahta hai (2001), which proved a big success that also led the movie a national award.

He did his schooling from the known Maneckji Cooper School followed by pursuing his college in HR College, however, he turned dropout leaving his commerce studies in the midst to pursue his film career working as the assistant director in Lamhe and Himalay Putra. Born and brought up in Bombay to the legend Javed Akhtar’s family, He comes from a strong influence of Indian cinema.
